• Birth Notes
  • Born about 1749/1750 in North Castle, NY.  In 1791, the Town of North Castle was split into two communities; one retained the original name and the other became New Castle.
    
    Meaning of  "a native of" is "One born in or connected with a place by birth".  Isaac was "a native of North Castle, NY" as stated in his 1787 claim, which means he was born in North Castle, NY.

  • Isaac from Kings Bridge served with Col. Stephen DeLancey 1st Battalion 1778.
    
    He operated a ferry at "Burdett's Landing [which] was a ferry stop between NY and Edgewater (Fort Lee)."
    
    "'Petty' in 'petty augu' is from the French word 'auget' meaning 'little trough' ('petit auge').  Hence, it was a ferry boat that was shaped like an animal feeding trough with steep sides and a flat bottom.
    I think 'cury' was colonial slang for 'currency'." --- John Brassard

    [Elaine Gould, my distant cousin] said: "Kings County Land records -- In 1798 Isaac and Anna Perkins were living in Sussex and selling land they owned in Kingston Parish. Isaac had bought the land earlier but when it was sold, Samuel Sharp was a witness."
    
    "Isaac may have had a previous wife as in 1787 when he sold another lot of land in Kingston his wife was Rachel."

        The prevailing form throughout America is Township and when a part of New Brunswick under the name of Sunbury County formed part of Nova Scotia, several townships were established. The township of Amesbury included the present Kingston and the name appears to have been used for two years after the settlement of the Loyalists at Kingston. By order in council Governor  Carlton established counties and their subdivisions called parishes and the Parish of Kingston came into existence in 1786. The loyalists had named their settlement Kingston and the parish took its name from the settlement. It was at that time much larger than at present and possibly followed the lines of the old Township of Amesbury. Kings County was originally divided into four parishes, Westfield, Sussex, Springfield, and Kingston. In 1795, Norton Parish was created by rearranging the boundaries of Sussex and Kingston. Greenwhich Parish was cut off from Kingston at the same time, and Hampton Parish formed form parts of Sussex and Kingston. It included parts of the present parishes of Upham, Hammond and Rothesay.
