  • First settled in Prince William Parish, York County,
    then at Centreville, Wicklow Parish, Carleton County.
    
    James came to NB from County (London)Derry about 1825.  James & Elizabeth lived for a time in York Co. but by the census of 1851 they were living  in Simonds (later that part of Simonds became Wilmot) Parish.

    John Buchanan (A) arrived at Patrick Island (?) on June 2, 1836 from Londonderry/Movill (Ship? - Who did he travel with?). I believe Patrick Island refers to either Prince Edward Island or someplace in New Brunswick.  His son, John (B) was born November 11, 1836 (location? - siblings?)
    
    John (B) married Mary Ann Buchanan (C) at Pokiok Settlement (confirmation?) on January 24, 1860. Mary Ann (C) was the daughter of Thomas Buchanan (D) from Stanley. They had seven children between 1861 and 1881.  Mary Ann (C) died years prior to 1892 in NB (date/location?).
    
    I know the general location where each of the children and the father headed except for Margaret (b. 5/13/1865 Prince William).

    "Ronald -- I have a John Buchanan I am researching. He was the brother of my ggggrandmother, Elizabeth Buchanan Reid. But he married a Margaret Cochrane while still in L'derry & moved to Canada prior to 1825. I believe he is the John Buchanan that died at Poquiok settlement (as that occurred in 1864 and he couldn't have been having children 20 years later!). Why don't you contact me directly and we'll compare notes."

    John and Margaret BUCHANAN sailed from (Northern) Ireland in 1833 and settled in New Brunswick, and are listed in the 1851 census for Albert Co., Hopewell Parish.  John & Margaret Buchanan of Hopewell, New Brunswick were listed on the 1851 census with the following:
    John, Mary, Margaret, William, Jane, Floanna, Joseph, Robert, Arminda
    
    Children:
    1) Elizabeth Buchanan born 1829, died 22 Apr 1899, m. Thomas G. Toms : ettled at Centreville and had twelve children:
    2) Mary Jane Buchanan b. 1830, d. 1904, m. 8 Aug 1850 Isaac Perkins born 1822, d. 2 May 1885, s/o Richard Perkins and Catherine DeLong: settled in Centreville and had eleven children:
    3) Marjory Buchanan born 1832, d. 25 Mar 1871, m. 29 Aug 1852 George West b. 1828, d. 19 Oct 1875, s/o Edward West: settled in Centreville and had seven children:
