    According to "Bergen Records, 1666-1788," edited by Dingman Versteeg and Thomas E. Vermilye, Jr., 1976:
    
    Laurens Andriessen was commissioned a member of the Court of Bergen in 1677 and was made president of the same in 1681. ________________________________________________
    According to "Van Buskirk: A Legacy from New Amsterdam," by Irene English Shoemaker, 1990:
    
    He established himself in the dry goods business in New Amsterdam and also bought some land etc.
    
    In 1688, he lived in his house at Hackensack...Van Buskirk was instrumental in getting a minister from Holland for the [Lutheran Church].
    
    Laurens was mentioned as de Draper, [which means] "a dealer in cloth and dry goods."
    
    It is conjectured that Laurens decided, while living with the Dutch, do as the Dutch and coined a name fitting of the Dutch. Like all men who were born in Denmark, his last name was the same as his father's first name, with the addition of "sen" (son), so we learn our ancestor, Laurens, was the son of Andries. The etymology of the Dutch name Van Buskirk, indicates a reference to a church (Kirche) in the bush (Busch) or woods.
    
    [His] most important land purchase was the tract on Bergen Neck, between Cavan Point and Constable's Hook, which extended north-west of southeast from the Hudson River to Newark Bay, being one mile in length on the northwesterly side, and a half mile wide. In 1863 this land was incorporated as Greenville Township, which in 1873 was annexed to Jersey City. Laurens built a home here and for some years occupied a house on the shore of New York Bay, near the present Greenville Station on the Central Railroad of New Jersey.
