General Notes

"South of Fredericton, next to the north branch of the Oromocto River, lies the small village of Tracy, New Brunswick. It owes its origins and name to Jeremiah Tracy one of the first settlers in this region who built a saw mill and a grist mill.

Jeremiah and another early settler, Lemuel Nason, had come from New England and originally settled near the Saint John River, but had to move when the lands reverted to the Crown at the time of the Loyalist migrations. Lemuel married Jeremiah's daughter, Mary Tracy, and their union produced fifteen children. One of these, Mary Nason, born in 1795,
married Robert Harold in Sunbury County, New Brunswick on November 18, 1818." --- Ted Brassard

They had ten children, four of whom were born in Maine, the remainder in New Brunswick. Jeremiah served in the Revolution, and, after peace was declared, took his wife and four children, in 1784-85, in a sloop and sailed up the Saint John River (to the Oromocto River where he settled and remained. [NOTE: This is in contradiction to the data provided by Mr. N.B. Tracy but for my authority please see Jeremiah, the 6th child of Jeremiah Tracy and Sarah Leighton- C. Tracy MacFarlane). His eldest son Solomon, born in 1772, was thirteen when his father settled on the Oromocto River. Jeremiah and. Sarah had ten children as follows:

6. Jeremiah, born in New Brunswick on November 27, 1786; married Mary Webb

10. ------, a daughter, who married a Tucker

Jeremiah built several saw mills and gave each of his sons a farm all stocked.

Came from Gouldsboro, Maine to NB in 1783 as Loyalists: first settled at Oromocto in Burton Parish, then at Tracy in Gladstone Parish, Sunbury County.
