Louis I, known as The Pious, was born on April 16th, 0778 in Cassenevil, L-Garonne, France.  The Pious' father was Charlemagne “Charles the Great” Holy Roman Emperor and his mother was Hildegarde Countess of Swabia (Linzgau) Empress of the Holy Roman Empire.  His paternal grandparents were Pepin III (Pippin) “The Short” King of France and Bertha (Bertrada) “The Broadfoot” of Laon; his maternal grandparents were Gerold I (Childebrand) Count of Vinzgau and Imma Duchess of Swabia.  He had a brother named Pepin I (Carlomon).  He was the younger of the two children.  He died at the age of 62 on June 20th, 0840.
